Boston Red Sox Jon Lester no-hitter against the Kansas City Royals

Ok, you probably heard Boston’s Red Sox threw a no-hitter vs the Kansas City Royals.

How sweet it is when you do it at home in front of a screaming sell out crowd.

The ninth inning began with the sell out crowd standing and cheering Lester on (lots of pressure here). Lester started out by walking German, Pena grounded out to third, DeJesus grounded out to first for the second out. Then to the plate came Callaspo to the plate, again with the crowd going crazy he threw a 93 MPH fastball. Callaspro trying to make contact missed the fast ball game over.

Jon Lester clinched his fists and Jason Varitek ran out to Lester picked him up and gave him a huge hug. The rest of the Boston Red Sox players stormed the mound congratulating Lester on his no-hitter. Read more

How sweet caroline got started at Fenway

Growing up and going to Red Sox games I never remembered sweet caroline being played at Fenway Park, I do remember it had began to play around the late 90’s but I wasn’t sure how it got started. Apparently it got started by Amy Tobey the teams music director from 1998-2004 after hearing it played at other events. When John Henry bought the team in 2002 it became the official song and was to be played in the eight inning.

Sweet Caroline is a catchy tune by Neil Diamond but the song really has nothing to do with baseball but has become a Fenway tradition and a staple with the Red Sox. The Red Sox even had Neil Diamond throw out the first pitch this year at Fenway. I bet Neil Diamond never imagine this song he wrote back in the 70’s would be so popular still today.

Jacoby Ellsbury rookie sensational play

First of all the Boston Red Sox are benefiting from rookies play this year

It’s been great watching them over the past few years. Some of the previous Rookies are playing everyday for the Red Sox or have a big part in the teams success this year. Past Rookies, Youkilis, Pedroia, Papelbon, Delcarmen, Lester.

Jacoby Ellsbury

What can you say about him except he may well be on his way to rookie of the year.

“G      AB       R      H     2B      3B      HR      RBI     BB     K     SB     CS     AVG    OBP”
“32    100    28     29     2        1         3          13      17      13    13      0       .290     .397″

He is closing on the all time MLB record of beginning a career with the most consecutive steals 23. Tim Raines holds the record at 27.

Causes havik when he gets on base and with his speed he gets to fly balls other players wouldn’t even try. With a one two punch in Ellsbury and Pedroia and the big boys up after, the Red Sox are going to be tough this year.
