View from the Luxury Box

I was able to make another Red Sox game in Tampa this week and was our first time sitting in a luxury box, We were lucky enough to be invited by our friends who had the box from their company. I tell you what it was a great experience and we may have been spoiled as I don’t think I want to sit in a regular seat ever again. Read more

Johnny Damon hits wall, ball sits on top of Wall

When the New York Yankees play the Boston Red Sox you can always expect the unexpected. By yesterdays game has the strangest play you’ll ever see in baseball.

With two men on base Kevin Youkilis hit a deep fly to left field. Johnny Damon leaped and caught the ball. Well not exactly he caught it till he hit the left field wall. The ball popped out of Damon’s glove and landed on the four inch wide wall and sat there for at least two seconds. The ball rolled off the wall into fail ground. Johnny Damon sat up not knowing where the ball was. A Yankee staff member started yelling and pointed to the ball, that was resting on the ground behind Damon. Damon got the ball and threw it in. Kevin Youkilis ended up with a triple and two RBI’s, tying the game.

Boston Red Sox Jon Lester no-hitter against the Kansas City Royals

Ok, you probably heard Boston’s Red Sox threw a no-hitter vs the Kansas City Royals.

How sweet it is when you do it at home in front of a screaming sell out crowd.

The ninth inning began with the sell out crowd standing and cheering Lester on (lots of pressure here). Lester started out by walking German, Pena grounded out to third, DeJesus grounded out to first for the second out. Then to the plate came Callaspo to the plate, again with the crowd going crazy he threw a 93 MPH fastball. Callaspro trying to make contact missed the fast ball game over.

Jon Lester clinched his fists and Jason Varitek ran out to Lester picked him up and gave him a huge hug. The rest of the Boston Red Sox players stormed the mound congratulating Lester on his no-hitter. Read more

Jacoby Ellsbury rookie sensational play

First of all the Boston Red Sox are benefiting from rookies play this year

It’s been great watching them over the past few years. Some of the previous Rookies are playing everyday for the Red Sox or have a big part in the teams success this year. Past Rookies, Youkilis, Pedroia, Papelbon, Delcarmen, Lester.

Jacoby Ellsbury

What can you say about him except he may well be on his way to rookie of the year.

“G      AB       R      H     2B      3B      HR      RBI     BB     K     SB     CS     AVG    OBP”
“32    100    28     29     2        1         3          13      17      13    13      0       .290     .397″

He is closing on the all time MLB record of beginning a career with the most consecutive steals 23. Tim Raines holds the record at 27.

Causes havik when he gets on base and with his speed he gets to fly balls other players wouldn’t even try. With a one two punch in Ellsbury and Pedroia and the big boys up after, the Red Sox are going to be tough this year.

Boston Red Sox Month of April 2008 Games

Red Sox sellout 400 consecutive games

Red Sox have sold out 400 consecutive games at Fenway Park tonight, team record. It doesn’t look like its going to stop anytime soon, just try and get a ticket to one of the Red Sox games.

The MLB record belongs to the Cleveland Indians at 455 consecutive sellouts. Cleveland’s streak ended April 4th 2001 and lasted for six seasons.

The Red Sox have added thousands of seats in the last few years and still sell out. When John Henry bought the Red Sox, the capacity of Fenway was 36,298. Fenway has increased its capacity over the last few years to 38,805 this year. He plans to have a capacity over 39,900, doing this in increments in the next several years.

Capacity = standing room and seating
The Red Sox are still one of the hottest tickets you “can’t” find.

Matsuzaka scratched because of flu-like symptoms.

Matsuzaka scratched from tonight’s game vs. the Angels with the flu-like bug  Lester getting the call on three days rest, Lester was scheduled to pitch tomorrow.

Beckett was scratched from last night’s game.

Matsuzaka joins Beckett, Varitek, Delcarmen, and Buchholz all with the same flu-like flu.
