How sweet caroline got started at Fenway
Growing up and going to Red Sox games I never remembered sweet caroline being played at Fenway Park, I do remember it had began to play around the late 90’s but I wasn’t sure how it got started. Apparently it got started by Amy Tobey the teams music director from 1998-2004 after hearing it played at other events. When John Henry bought the team in 2002 it became the official song and was to be played in the eight inning.
Sweet Caroline is a catchy tune by Neil Diamond but the song really has nothing to do with baseball but has become a Fenway tradition and a staple with the Red Sox. The Red Sox even had Neil Diamond throw out the first pitch this year at Fenway. I bet Neil Diamond never imagine this song he wrote back in the 70’s would be so popular still today.
